Premium Glaze Palace Jar

The Premium Glaze Palace Jar is the biggest single vessel in the Premium Glaze range: one size, 83cm across and 100cm tall, in double-fired ceramic. It comes in ten hand-applied glaze colourways from ocean blues to gunmetal, double fired for depth and for frost resistance. At 90kg empty it is bought for presence, not for moving around a courtyard.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Double-fired ceramic with the glaze applied by hand. The 83 x 100cm figure is an outside dimension, so the usable planting space sits inside the wall.

Outdoors. Frost resistance comes from the double firing, and the glazes keep their colour outside through summer heat and cold mornings. Tone and pooling vary between pieces.

Drainage. It drains from the base. Keep the holes clear and raise the jar on pot feet so water escapes freely. Cover each hole with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, since both clog. Lay 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a quality premium potting mix, never garden soil.
