The Premium Glaze French Urn is a double-fired ceramic planter in the classic urn profile, made in four sizes from 45 x 50cm up to 85 x 95cm. Ten hand-applied glaze colourways run from ocean blues to gunmetal, and the second firing gives the finish both its depth and its frost resistance.

  • 45 x 50cm, 80L, 20kg. One plant from a 200mm or 250mm nursery pot, such as a clipped ball or a compact citrus.
  • 60 x 64cm, 110L, 47kg. Takes a 25L shrub with room at the edge for something trailing.
  • 68 x 73cm, 150L, 65kg. An entrance piece, and deep enough for an advanced 45L plant.
  • 85 x 95cm, 270L, 145kg. The size for a tree that has to live in a container.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Double-fired ceramic under a hand-applied glaze. Every measurement is an outside dimension, so the planting volume sits inside the wall thickness.

Outdoors. The double firing carries the frost resistance, and the colours are made to hold through hot summers and cold mornings. Expect small differences in tone and glaze pooling between pieces.

Drainage. It drains from the base. Keep the holes clear and stand the urn on pot feet so water escapes freely. Cover each hole with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, because both clog. Add 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a quality premium potting mix, never garden soil.
