The Old Stone Wide Sala Pond is a broad, low earthenware bowl, high fired with an unglazed sandblasted surface, sold in eight sizes from 50cm across up to 117cm. Every size is wider than it is tall, which is the point: a shallow bowl reads as a landscape element where a tall pot reads as furniture. The surface weathers and gains character season after season.

  • 50 x 28cm to 70 x 35cm, 22kg to 46kg. Terrace and courtyard scale. Good for a succulent grouping or a single sculptural plant.
  • 77 x 35cm to 88 x 42cm, 51kg to 74kg. The middle ground, with soil volume for a substantial mixed bowl or one broad feature plant.
  • 100 x 45cm to 117 x 54cm, 96kg to 120kg. Entry and driveway scale. Placed once, by more than one person, and planted in position.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. High fired earthenware, unglazed, sandblasted. Colour and texture vary between pieces.

Outdoors. An outdoor bowl, built to weather. We make no frost or UV claim for it, so in hard frosting districts keep it raised, drained and out of standing water.

Drainage. This is supplied as a planter, not a sealed water feature. Keep the drainage holes clear and raise the bowl on feet so water escapes freely. Cover each hole with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clog. Add a 50mm layer of 10mm gravel, then a quality premium potting mix, never garden soil. A wide shallow bowl dries faster than a deep pot, so mulch the surface and check it often in summer.
