The Italian Terracotta Rolled Rim Pot is made in Italy from natural terracotta, in the classic round form with a thick rolled rim. It comes in one size, 43cm across and 50cm high, holding roughly 65 to 75 litres of mix. That depth sets it apart from most decorative pots: there is real root room, so a citrus or a shrub can stay put for years rather than needing an upgrade every second season.

  • 500mm. 43cm across the rim and 50cm tall, with roughly 65 to 75 litres of soil volume. Enough for a potted citrus, a substantial shrub, a mixed herb planting or a small tree.
  • Planted or as a cover pot. It takes direct planting, or a grow pot dropped inside if you want to swap the display seasonally.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Natural terracotta with an unsealed clay finish. Brush it clean or rinse it with water. It is heavy for its size compared with fibreglass, which is the trade off for the stability and the moisture buffering.

Outdoors. Suited to outdoor gardens, courtyards and patios, and specified for indoor use as well. Unsealed clay weathers outdoors and gains a patina over the years.

Drainage. Drainage holes are included, and the porous wall moves moisture as well, so the mix dries faster than it would in a sealed pot. No saucer comes with it, and indoors you will want one, or at least surface protection under the base.

What to expect when it arrives

The pot ships empty, without soil or plants. Soak it before planting so the dry clay does not pull moisture straight out of fresh potting mix.
