GRC Lorraine Pond

The GRC Lorraine Pond is a low, broad bowl in glass reinforced concrete, 62cm or 82cm across and well under knee height. It holds 120 or 280 litres, a serious amount of mix for a piece that sits this low, and at 13kg and 23kg empty either size is a one person carry.

All measurements are outside dimensions, diameter by height.

• 62 x 48cm, 120 litres, 13kg. A single dense planting: agave, a clipped ball, or a low sweep of succulents spilling over the rim.
• 82 x 56cm, 280 litres, 23kg. Wide enough to compose in. Structure in the centre, trailing foliage to the edge, or one mass of the same plant repeated.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Glass reinforced concrete is a concrete shell reinforced with glass fibre. It carries the texture of cast concrete, which is why a 280 litre bowl still lands at 23kg empty and lifts onto a deck without help.

Outdoors. The custom spray finishes are Dulux Weathershield. We publish no frost rating for the range, so treat cold inland districts as untested rather than assume the finish will cope.

Drainage. Despite the name, it comes with the same guidance as the rest of the GRC range: it is drilled to drain, so keep the holes clear, stand it on feet, and screen each hole with fibreglass flyscreen, not fabric or geofabric, which clogs. Lay 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a premium potting mix. If you want it to hold water rather than soil, ask us first, because no sealed rating is published for it.

What to expect when it arrives

Bowls ship empty, packed to travel upright. Rust dispatches in two to five business days; custom spray colours are made to order, so allow two to three weeks.
