The Fiskars Plant Care Detailer is a small pair of bypass snips for fine work inside a dense indoor plant, supplied with a free standing holder. The blades are 37mm and the handles 115mm, a deliberately long handle for a tool this size: the reach gets you to a stem in the middle of a crowded pot without crushing leaves on the way in. The whole tool weighs 141g.

What it does

  • Forged stainless steel blades. Made from 80% recycled stainless steel, forged rather than stamped, and corrosion resistant so sap and water do not mark them.
  • Bypass cutting. The blades pass each other like scissors instead of crushing against an anvil, leaving a clean cut face that heals quickly.
  • Ambidextrous handles. Comfortable in either hand, which matters when you are reaching around a plant rather than standing square to it.
  • Holder with an adjustable base. Free standing, made from 50% recycled plastic, and both snips and holder can be dismantled for recycling.

How to use it

Cut just above a leaf node or where a leaf meets the stem, so the plant reshoots from a growth point instead of leaving a stub to die back. Take spent flowers, yellowing leaves and stray growth as you notice them rather than saving up one big tidy up. Total length is 170mm, so the blades reach into the canopy ahead of your hand and you can see the cut.

Wipe the blades clean after use and dry them, particularly after sappy stems, then stand the snips back in the holder. It protects the edge and keeps the tool at the bench rather than lost in a drawer.

Use on indoor plants. Houseplants and delicate foliage, where every cut is at eye level and needs to be neat.
