The Cyclone 330mm Straight Shears cut the grass a mower and a line trimmer both leave behind: the strip against a garden bed, the tuft behind a tap, the run along a fence line. They are all-steel hand shears with a straight blade, 330mm high, 70mm wide and 30mm deep, made for accuracy rather than volume.

What it does

  • Single-piece blade and shank. Blade and shank are formed from one length of steel rather than joined, so there is no rivet or weld at the point carrying the cutting load.
  • All-steel construction. Steel through the blades and shanks. No gear drive, no rotating head, no telescoping handle, so there is nothing to work loose or fall out of adjustment.
  • Straight blade profile. A straight edge sits flat against turf or paving, which is what gives a clean continuous line instead of a scalloped one.

How to use it

For a lawn edge, hold the blades flat and parallel to the ground and work along the line in short overlapping strokes rather than stabbing at it. Turn the shears on their side to cut vertically against a paver or a mowing strip. Forcing woody stems through a straight blade will spring it out of true.

Clean the blades after every use so grass residue and sap do not dry on the steel, wipe them dry, store them somewhere dry, and give the steel a light oil every few months.

What it suits

Edges, borders and tight corners. Anywhere the mower cannot finish the job: along a bed edge, against a fence line, around a downpipe or a letterbox post.

Working close to plants. The straight blade and short frame let you take grass out of a flower bed, or away from a sprinkler head, without taking the plant with it.
