The Atlantis U Planter is the workhorse of the Atlantis range, a hand made aged ceramic pot double fired in Vietnam for frost resistance. It runs across five sizes, from 26 x 41cm holding 20 litres to 68 x 80cm holding 200 litres, so one shape can carry a whole courtyard. Buying the same form in several sizes is the simplest way to make a garden look considered.

  • 34 x 50cm, 30 litres, 20kg. A compact grass, a cordyline or a single flowering shrub.
  • 44 x 55cm, 60 litres, 30kg. Dwarf citrus, buxus balls or a bird of paradise.
  • 54 x 68cm, 140 litres, 45kg. Enough soil for a small feature tree or a full mixed planting.
  • 68 x 80cm, 200 litres, 70kg. Statement scale. An olive, a frangipani or a multi trunk specimen.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Aged ceramic, hand made and double fired in Vietnam. The glaze is uneven on purpose, so colour and surface vary between pots.

Outdoors. Frost resistant and built to sit out in the weather, with the aged finish continuing to develop. Raise it on pot feet so the base drains.

Drainage. Every size is drilled. Keep the holes clear, cover each with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clogs. Add 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a premium potting mix rather than garden soil. Indoors it still drains, so it needs a saucer.
