The Atlantis Toggle Pot is a tall feature pot in hand made aged ceramic, double fired in Vietnam so it stands up to frost. Three sizes run from 30 x 57cm holding 30 litres to 39 x 81cm holding 90 litres. It is the easiest of the tall shapes to live with, because the largest weighs only 46kg empty.

Why you'll love it

  • Tall but liftable. The 39 x 81cm size is 81cm high and 46kg empty, light enough for two people to place without gear.
  • Narrow at the base. Nothing in the range is over 39cm across, so it fits beside a door or in a tight courtyard corner.
  • Frost resistant. The second firing closes up the ceramic, which is what lets it winter outside in cold districts.
  • Hand aged glaze. The finish is textured and uneven by design, so each pot has its own tone.

Sizes and what fits in them

Three sizes, quoted as outside width by height.

  • 30 x 57cm, 30 litres, 18kg empty. A clipped ball, a small grass or a group of succulents. Easy to move as the garden changes.
  • 35 x 69cm, 60 litres, 27kg empty. The size most people land on. Holds a dwarf citrus, a cordyline or a slim upright shrub.
  • 39 x 81cm, 90 litres, 46kg empty. Real height for an entry or a pool surround, with soil enough for a small feature tree.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Aged ceramic, hand made and double fired in Vietnam. The glaze is applied to look weathered, so surface and colour vary from piece to piece.

Outdoors. Frost resistant and intended to live outside, where the aged finish keeps moving. Sit it on pot feet so water clears the base.

Drainage. The pot is drilled. Keep the holes clear, screen each one with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen rather than fabric or geofabric, which clogs, then lay 50mm of 10mm gravel before filling with a premium potting mix. Garden soil compacts and should stay out. Indoors it drains the same way, so it needs a saucer.
