Yes. StoneLite, GRC and Terrazzo pots can be custom sprayed in almost any Dulux or Colorbond colour for an extra $60. Contact us before ordering.

The Atlantis Roman Jar is the tall jar in the range, hand made in Vietnam and double fired for frost resistance. It comes in three sizes, from 48cm by 96cm holding 150 litres up to 60cm by 118cm holding 250 litres, and every one stands taller than it is wide. That height is the reason to choose it: a Roman Jar carries an entry or a courtyard corner on its own.

  • Height without bulk. Even the largest size is only 60cm across, so it lifts the eye in a narrow bed where a wide pot would not fit.
  • Three sizes that step evenly. 150, 200 and 250 litres, which makes a graduated group easy to build.

  • Double fired for frost resistance. The second firing hardens the body and is what makes the range suitable outdoors.

Sizes and what fits in them

All three are quoted as outside width by height.

  • 48cm by 96cm, 150 litres, 60kg. The workable one for a doorway or balcony corner. Takes a clipped standard or a slim conifer.
  • 52cm by 104cm, 200 litres, 70kg. The middle size, with enough soil for a dwarf citrus or a shaped topiary that stays for years.
  • 60cm by 118cm, 250 litres, 105kg. Best used empty as a feature, or planted with one strong vertical plant.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Hand made ceramic from Vietnam, double fired, finished in a heavily textured aged glaze in natural tones.

Outdoors. The double firing gives the frost resistance. The glaze is meant to weather, so expect the tone to soften and the texture to gather patina outdoors.

Drainage. Keep the drainage holes clear and stand the jar on feet so water can leave. Screen the holes with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clog. Add 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a premium potting mix rather than garden soil, and avoid aggressive roots, which damage any planter. Indoors, use a saucer.
