Atlantis Opium Jar

The Atlantis Opium Jar is the largest vessel in the range, hand-made in Vietnam in one size, 88 x 81cm outside, holding 430 litres. It is double-fired and finished in the textured aged glaze that runs through the Atlantis pots. This is a centrepiece: broad, low shouldered and heavy enough to anchor a courtyard.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Hand-made ceramic from Vietnam, double-fired, with an aged glaze over a textured body. Variation in tone across the surface is part of the finish.

Outdoors. Frost resistant and built to stay outside permanently. The glaze looks weathered on arrival and keeps ageing.

Drainage. It is drilled for drainage. Keep them clear and raise the jar on pot feet so water escapes freely. Cover each hole with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clogs, then a 50mm layer of 10mm gravel and a premium potting mix, never garden soil.
