The Atlantis Apollo Jar is a broad shouldered ceramic jar, handmade in Vietnam and double fired, finished in the aged glaze that gives the Atlantis range its weathered look. It is made in one size, 66cm across and 85cm tall, holding 250 litres. That is the largest volume in the range, so it is bought as a feature and usually stands alone.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Handmade ceramic, double fired, with an aged glaze applied by hand in Vietnam. Expect variation in tone and texture between pieces.

Outdoors. Frost resistance comes from the double firing, so it can hold a planting through a cold season outdoors. The finish is built to look weathered. It is still ceramic, so keep it off unstable paving.

Drainage. It has drainage holes. Keep them clear, raise the jar on feet, and screen them with fibreglass flyscreen rather than fabric or geofabric, which clog. Lay 50mm of 10mm gravel, then fill with a premium potting mix, never garden soil.
