The Atlantis Alibaba Pot is a handmade ceramic urn, thrown in Vietnam and double fired, finished in the textured aged glaze that runs through the Atlantis range. It is made in one size only: 58cm across, 87cm tall, holding 200 litres. At that scale it anchors a courtyard or entry on its own, and because the glaze is hand applied, no two pieces match.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Handmade ceramic from Vietnam, double fired, finished in an aged glaze. Colour depth, texture and edge wear vary between pieces, which is the character of the range.

Outdoors. The double firing is what gives it frost resistance, so it can stay planted through winter in cold districts. The finish is meant to weather, so marks settle into the glaze. Fired ceramic still breaks, so keep it on level, solid ground.

Drainage. Keep the drainage holes clear and raise the pot on feet. Screen the holes with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clog. Add 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a premium potting mix, never garden soil. Under cover it needs a tray.

Pots ship empty and unplanted, packed and strapped for freight. At 59kg the 58cm x 87cm urn is a two person lift, so get it into position before filling.
